Impact of sodium hypochlorite on rejection of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs by biomimetic forward osmosis membranes

چکیده

Biomimetic forward osmosis membranes with a polyamide-based active layer containing polymersomes incorporating aquaporins were exposed to various free chlorine doses (free concentration x exposure time) and pH. Membrane chlorination was found decrease the apolar/polar balance of membrane surface energy increase its negative charge density. A substantial modification hydrogen-bond network in also highlighted. The separation performance biomimetic impacted by chlorine-induced chemical ageing. For lowest (100 ppm h), reverse salt flux respect pristine while water dropped 10–20%. higher (1000 10 000 both than for membrane. These behaviors explained combination several mechanisms possible antagonist effects, namely reduced internal polarization due ageing support material, modifications density layer. Although degradation caused sodium hypochlorite increased draw-solute loss per unit passed, maintained their rejection ability towards naproxen diclofenac as rejections 95.9% measured irrespective conditions.

Aquaporin, forward osmosis and biomimetic membranes.

Aquaporin attracted attention not only of physiologists and biophysicists, but also of chemical engineers. Here we critically analyze a paper describing aquaporin-based artificial membranes, suggested for forward osmosis-based water purification (Wang et al. 2012, Small 8, pp. 1185-1190). Related papers published later by the same group are also discussed. We indicate recently developed general...

Safety of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used in medical practice for treating pain, inflammation and degenerative joint diseases (for instance, arthritis). The use of traditional NSAIDs (tNSAIDs), however, is associated with an increased risk of minor and serious gastrointestinal (GI) events. It is estimated that in the European Union thousands of gastrointestinal complication...

Investigation of Anti-Dermatophytic Effects of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs on Trichophyton Mentagrophytes and Epidermophyton Floccosum

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are the most common pharmacological group that has three primary therapeutic effects including anti-inflammatory, anti-pyrexia, and analgesia. In this study, seven of NSAIDs were tested against two species of skin pathogenic fungi (dermatophytes). Percentage inhibition was determined for effective agents. Diclofenac, Aspirin and Naproxen showed muc...
